چکیده

Given an M=G=1 queue controlled by an exhaustive policy P, we consider a (P+ )-policy consisting of turning the server on at a random time later than P. The objective is to obtain necessary and su cient conditions such that the (P+ )-policy are better than the P-policy. Under the in nite-horizon average-cost criterion, policies are compared when the costs assumed are linear. When the holding cost is the waiting time cost per unit time per customer, the optimality of the N -policy over, both the (N + )-policy and the D-policy is showed. We will also discuss on the di erent types of T -policies, single and multiple, establishing a relation between them, which is independent of the optimization criterion. c © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Optimization of M G 1 Queue with Vacation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper reports on the minimization of the average waiting time of the customers in the M/G/1 queue with vacation. Explicit formula for the unknown service parameter of a particular customer has been obtained by considering the exhaustive service discipline in the case of multi-user with unlimited service system. Moreover, results in case of partially gated and gated service disciplines unde...

Optimal routing in two-queue polling systems

We consider a polling system with two queues, exhaustive service, no switch-over times and exponential service times with rate μ in each queue. The waiting cost depends on the position of the queue relative to the server: It costs a customer c per time unit to wait in the busy queue (where the server is) and d per time unit in the idle queue (where no server is). Customers arrive according to a...

On optimal polling policies

In a single server polling system, the server visits the queues according to a routing policy and while at a queue serves some or all of the customers there according to a service policy. A polling (or scheduling) policy is a sequence of decisions on whether to serve a customer, idle the server, or switch the server to another queue. The goal of this paper is to nd polling policies that stochas...

Bat Algorithm for Optimal Service Parameters in an Impatient Customer N-Policy Vacation Queue

In this paper, a meta-heuristic method, the Bat Algorithm, based on the echolocation behavior of bats is used to determine the optimum service rate of a queue problem. A finite buffer M/M/1 queue with N policy, multiple working vacations and Bernoulli schedule vacation interruption is considered. Under the two customers' impatient situations, balking and reneging, the...

Optimality of Index Policies for Stochastic Scheduling with Switching Penalties

We investigate the impact of switching penalties on the nature of optimal scheduling policies for systems of parallel queues without arrivals. We study two types of switching penalties incurred when switching between queues: lump sum costs and time delays. Under the assumption that the service periods of jobs in a given queue possess the same distribution, we derive an index rule that deenes an...
